"Resonance"

Introduction: Sue is an experienced weaver, passionate about her work, who moved to Nelson in 2006, after weaving for many years in Palmerston North and Dunedin, then Brisbane. She has gained her skills over the years by attending selected workshops and seminars, and putting into practice what she learns. Recently Sue has been trying to master designing on computer, with the aim to stretch the limitations of her weaving loom. Using high quality fine wools and other natural fibres, such as mohair, silk, cotton and linen, Sue designs and weaves to create original pieces. Some of her work is enhanced by using hand-dyed yarns, and by using fibre combinations that produce interesting textures and lustres. Sue's work is inspired by colours of the natural world, especially those of Tasman Bay and The Haven, views of which Sue has from her home studio. Her work has been shown in Australia, but more widely in New Zealand. Sue exhibits her work at both local and national exhibitions where it has attracted several major awards over the years, Including the Haven Award for colour, the Wools of NZ Award, and recently, the Wonderful Weaving Award at the National Alpaca Conference 2009.
