The Tunic - Art to Wear, by Susanne Williamson

Artist’s Statement: The garment designs in this exhibition incorporate a range of decorative fabric techniques, including shibori and batik. The silk tunic form is a receptive canvas on which to paint and explore design. I have used specially formulated non-toxic silk dyes which are steamed into the fabric. The 100% merino knit tunics feature poems accented with silk shibori forms. I studied Calligraphy at university (San Jose, California), and have employed my love of the art form with appliqué to make a series of shoulder bags.
